Day 1 explores the UNESCO-listed historic town of Bagamoyo, once East Africa’s most important trading port and a major slave trade hub. Days 2 & 3 take you to Saadani National Park – the only wildlife sanctuary in East Africa where the bush meets the beach, offering game drives, river safaris, and the unique sight of elephants walking along the Indian Ocean shoreline.
Itinerary
Day 1: Dar es Salaam → Bagamoyo – Full Day City Tour
Your adventure begins with a morning pickup from Dar es Salaam and a scenic drive to the historic coastal town of Bagamoyo, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its rich history, culture, and heritage.
With your professional English-speaking guide, you will explore:
- Bagamoyo Museum – showcasing the town’s cultural and historical archives
- Old German Boma & Old Fort – remnants of German colonial rule
- Kaole Ruins – ancient mosques and coral stone tombs dating back to the 13th century
- Slave Route Tour – retracing the heartbreaking path walked by enslaved people
- Former Slave Market – an important place of remembrance
- Old Town & Arts & Crafts Centre – meet local artists and discover Bagamoyo’s creative culture
Lunch will be served at a local restaurant offering delicious coastal Tanzanian cuisine.

Day 2: Full Day Game Drive – Saadani National Park
After breakfast, depart for Saadani National Park, the only wildlife park in East Africa that borders the Indian Ocean.
Enjoy a full-day game drive where you may encounter elephants, giraffes, zebras, wildebeests, buffalos, waterbucks, warthogs, monkeys, and a variety of stunning birdlife. The park’s landscapes shift beautifully between savannah, riverbanks, and coastal beach areas, offering excellent photographic opportunities.
Optional: Wami River boat safari (depending on water levels), famous for hippos, crocodiles, and exceptional birdwatching.
Saadani’s rare combination of bush and beach allows you to enjoy classic wildlife viewing while experiencing the refreshing ocean breeze. It is a peaceful and uncrowded destination perfect for nature lovers and families.
