With your own safari guide and vehicle, you’ll travel at your own pace, enjoy game drives in the best wildlife areas, and relax each night at comfortable lodges or tented camps. Your adventure begins with your arrival in Arusha, the gateway city to northern Tanzania’s national parks. From there, each day brings new landscapes, exciting animal sightings, and memorable experiences. Whether this is your first safari or a return trip, these five days will offer you a close look at Africa’s nature and wildlife in a short but rich itinerary.

 

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Arusha

You’ll be met at Kilimanjaro International Airport in Arusha by your safari driver-guide. After a short drive, you’ll check in to your hotel in Arusha, a peaceful town located at the base of Mount Meru. Depending on your arrival time, you can relax at the hotel or explore a bit of the town on your own.

Day 2: Arusha to Tarangire National Park

After breakfast, your safari begins with a drive to Tarangire National Park. This park is famous for its beautiful landscape filled with baobab trees and large numbers of elephants. You’ll enjoy a game drive through the park, looking for animals like lions, giraffes, zebras, ostriches, and many kinds of birds. In the late afternoon, you’ll leave the park and head to the nearby highlands town of Karatu, where you’ll rest for the night.

Day 3: Karatu to Serengeti National Park

After an early breakfast, you’ll drive toward Serengeti National Park, passing through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Along the way, you’ll enjoy views of the highlands and the chance to see Maasai villages and wildlife. By midday, you’ll enter the Serengeti and begin your first game drive in this world-famous park. Look out for big cats, elephants, wildebeest, and more. The open plains make it easier to spot animals from a distance.

Day 4: Serengeti to Ngorongoro Crater

Start the day with an early morning game drive in the Serengeti, a great time to see animals when they are active. After breakfast and one last game drive, you’ll begin your journey back toward the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, enjoying wildlife sightings along the way. You’ll arrive near the crater rim in the late afternoon for dinner and rest.

Day 5: Ngorongoro Crater to Arusha - Departure

After an early breakfast, you’ll descend into the Ngorongoro Crater, a massive volcanic caldera with rich wildlife. Inside the crater, you’ll enjoy a half-day game drive with a good chance of seeing rhinos, hippos, buffalo, flamingos, and possibly lions. After a picnic lunch near a waterhole, you’ll drive back to Arusha, where your safari ends. You’ll be dropped off at your hotel or the airport depending on your travel plans.
