Day 1: Marangu Gate to Mandara Hut

Habitat: Montane rainforest

Distance: Approximately 8 km

Hiking time: Approximately 4–5 hours

Elevation: Marangu Gate ~1,860 m to Mandara Hut ~2,700 m

Overnight: Mandara Hut

Your Kilimanjaro adventure begins with a morning transfer from Moshi to Marangu Gate. After completing the park registration and preparations, begin your trek through the beautiful montane rainforest.

The trail gradually ascends through lush vegetation toward Mandara Hut, your first overnight stop on the mountain. Enjoy dinner and rest before the next stage of your climb.

Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner, according to your confirmed package.

Day 2: Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut

Habitat: Heath and moorland

Distance: Approximately 11–12 km

Hiking time: Approximately 5–8 hours

Elevation: Mandara ~2,700 m to Horombo ~3,720 m

Overnight: Horombo Hut

After breakfast, continue your ascent toward Horombo Hut. The rainforest gradually gives way to open moorland, with changing vegetation and mountain views.

On clear days, you may enjoy views toward Mawenzi Peak and Kibo. Arrive at Horombo Hut for dinner and overnight rest.

Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Day 3: Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut

Habitat: Alpine desert

Distance: Approximately 10 km

Hiking time: Approximately 5–8 hours

Elevation: Horombo ~3,720 m to Kibo ~4,700 m

Overnight: Kibo Hut

Continue your climb across the high Saddle between Mawenzi and Kibo peaks. The landscape becomes increasingly dry and rocky as you approach Kibo Hut.

Kibo Hut is the final mountain accommodation before the summit attempt. After arriving, rest and prepare for the demanding summit day ahead.

Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Day 4: Summit Attempt – Kibo Hut to Uhuru Peak, then Horombo Hut

Summit: Uhuru Peak, 5,895 m

Starting point: Kibo Hut, approximately 4,700 m

Overnight: Horombo Hut

Your summit attempt begins during the night, usually around midnight, depending on the guide's plan and mountain conditions.

Climb toward Gilman's Point on the crater rim and continue toward Uhuru Peak if your guide determines that it is safe and appropriate to proceed.

At the summit, celebrate your achievement and enjoy the mountain views when weather permits. After the summit attempt, descend toward Kibo Hut and continue to Horombo Hut for overnight rest.

Safety: Summit success is not guaranteed. Your guide may recommend stopping or descending if altitude sickness, exhaustion, weather or other safety concerns arise.

Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Day 5: Horombo Hut to Marangu Gate – Moshi

Habitat: Moorland and rainforest

Hiking time: Approximately 5–7 hours

Destination: Marangu Gate and Moshi

After breakfast, begin your descent through the moorland and rainforest toward Marangu Gate.

Once you arrive at the gate, complete the exit procedures and receive your summit or participation certificate, as applicable.

Our vehicle will be ready to transfer you back to Moshi for a well-deserved rest or onward travel.
