New SGR-Linked Gate at Mikumi National Park Coming in 2026
In a move to enhance accessibility to Mikumi National Park, a new entrance gate is set to open in Kilosa District by 2026. This development will significantly reduce the travel distance from the SGR (Standard Gauge Railway) station to the park—from 120 kilometers down to just 19 kilometers. The new gate is expected to greatly benefit tourists arriving via the SGR, minimizing travel time and maximizing time spent enjoying the park's natural beauty. Explore Mikumi National Park
Mikumi National Park, part of the larger Selous ecosystem, is renowned for its abundant wildlife and beautiful landscapes. The park is home to the “Big Four” (lion, elephant, buffalo, and leopard) and a variety of other species such as giraffes, zebras, wildebeests, hippos, and crocodiles. Bird enthusiasts will be delighted with over 400 bird species found in the park, including rare and colorful species.
